Menu Mentoring, Christmas 2014

Welcome to this months' healthpro Menu Mentoring® Newsletter, our last edition for 2014. This year, we've enjoyed helping a diverse range of Irish food businesses to best inform their customers as to the nutritional and allergen profile of the wonderful food they serve. For the coming year, we look forward to continuing to offer the most comprehensive menu labelling service in this country and to further the growth and development of businesses leading in the provision of consumer information.

From all the team at healthpro, have a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous, and healthy 2015.

New allergen labelling requirements for Irish food providers

The Food Information for Consumers (FIC) Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 comes into force on December 13th, 2014. From that date on, food providers must be equipped to provide their customers with information regarding the allergens contained in all their food.

Under existing EU law, a total of 14 specified food allergens must be declared on the packaging of prepacked foods and beverages. This requirement will now be extended to include all food and beverages sold to the public, necessitating non-prepacked or loose food and beverages to be appropriately labelled. As a result food businesses such as restaurants, hotels, bars, takeaways, cafes, canteens, healthcare and childcare facilities, and market stalls will now have to declare the presence of these allergens in their food and drink. So called 'distance sellers' delivering food services to the public via phone or internet sales will have to comply similarly.

healthpro Menu Mentoring® has been helping a diverse range of Irish food businesses and food providers to become legislation compliant. Following comprehensive analysis of non-prepacked food and drink items for the presence of the specified allergens, healthpro Menu Mentoring® facilitates businesses in providing clear and concise menu, menu board, and/or website declaration solutions.
