Breast Cancer Awareness at the bay restaurant

October 2011: Breast Cancer Awareness

Let Us Take Action at the bay Restaurant

In Ireland alone over 2500 women are diagnosed per year with breast cancer and Ireland has the “seventh highest incident rate in the world” according to Maya Monterio from the World Cancer Research Fund. It is for this reason that both bay and healthpro would like to raise awareness to help women to know that making lifestyle changes can make a real difference to reducing their breast cancer risk. According to the Irish Cancer Society women can reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 42% by making lifestyle changes and 4 in 10 cases are linked to diet and lifestyle imbalances such as poor diet, excess body fat and lack of physical activity. Evidence is strong that women can reduce their risk of breast cancer by maintaining a healthy weight, being regularly physically active and consuming a balanced diet.

The bay restaurant and healthpro have worked hard together to create meals for our ladies that are balanced, tasty and rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants all of which are essential in reducing our risk factors towards developing breast cancer. healthpro would like to recommend the following two dishes at bay:

  • Chicken or Beef Noodles  - a mix of brightly coloured vegetables on a bed of noodles served with strips of chicken breast or lean beef providing you with a balanced meal of carbohydrate, protein, vitamins and minerals.
  • Chermoula Sardines served with quinoa and beetroot salad – quinoa is an amino acid rich seed that has a fluffy and slightly crunchy texture. Quinoa is a good source of Magnesium, a mineral that helps to relax blood vessels. It is also a source of riboflavin, which is necessary for energy production. This dish combined with Omega 3 rich sardines will provide you with a nutrient dense meal.

This month healthpro with the Deer Park Hotel are hosting for the third year on Sunday the 23rd October 2011 at 2pm a Family Walk / Fun Run with the aim to Take Steps to Reduce the Risk of Cancer. We would like you to come along and be part of the fun and walk Howth Hill starting from the Deer Park Hotel. This is a family friendly and fun event will all proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society. For further details please visit www.healthpro.ie/action

The bay and the healthproteam would like to wish you a great October

Yours in health and wellbeing,
