An inspirational story of an inspirational man
Having discovered the joys of running in later life, Limerick man John Collins trained for, and successfully completed his first Dublin Marathon in 1984 at the age of 53. Enjoying his maiden marathon experience so much, John proceeded to complete the Dublin Marathon every year thereafter for an incredible 29 consecutive events. John, who has also ran the New York and Boston marathons, completed his thirtieth and 'final' Dublin at last months' SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon in a time of 6:55:52. With his daughter and grandson also running the event this year, this truly inspirational gent was quoted recently as saying, "I say it'll be my last one, but you never know, you never say never. I might do one more".
With a decent amount of collective experience between them, the healthpro team are well aware of the enormous amount of commitment and dedication it takes to complete a full marathon in any given year. Sustaining such application for thirty consecutive years is an incredible testament to John's personal motivation, obvious love for running and fitness, and impecable health. What an inspiration!
